Foreword
Carolyn Dean was a conventional physician who developed a severe magnesium deficiency in the 1990s. Her training hadn't taught her much about nutrients. She then began conducting intensive research. She has spent over 25 years studying magnesium and calcium.
She now focuses primarily on nutrition, nutrients, naturopathy, and helping people learn. She's called the magnesium doctor because she's the only one in the world who has conducted so much research on magnesium. What we're writing here in this blog post comes from her book, which details her research.

Magnesium deficiency and calcium excess cause health problems
Carolyn Dean: Conventional doctors haven't learned anything about nutrients and nutrition. But there's one nutrient they do recommend and heavily promote: calcium. It's precisely this nutrient that's best not taken in isolation.
By the end of this blog, you will understand why too much calcium is not yourfriend . must be a natural balance between calcium and magnesium.
There are two problems:
1- Our magnesium is depleted in our soil. Calcium is always higher in the soil than magnesium. Magnesium is more sensitive to pesticides. Even if magnesium is depleted, you can still get enough calcium.
2. There's also a problem with too much calcium in our diet from dairy products and calcium-fortified foods and juices. This is a problem because calcium and magnesium are antagonists. The more calcium in the body, the less magnesium.
They have a push-pull relationship.
Calcium tenses the muscles and stimulates the nerves.
And magnesium relaxes the muscles and nerves.
When you have too much calcium in relation to magnesium, your muscles become stressed and nerves can become hyper-excitable, causing a range of symptoms such as high blood pressure, muscle spasms, palpitations, angina, and heart attack.
We also lose a lot of magnesium during exercise and when someone is under chronic stress. However, they continue to absorb sufficient calcium. These people ultimately end up with too much calcium in relation to magnesium.
Too much calcium in the body depletes the magnesium in the body. And people eat too much calcium.
There are 2 problems if you get too much calcium in your body:

Calcium and magnesium have a complex biochemical interaction. Magnesium ensures that calcium is dissolved . Only when calcium can be dissolved can it be transported to the correct locations in the body via the bloodstream.
Calcium needs to be able to dissolve in your bloodstream so it can go directly to your bones and teeth.
If calcium cannot be dissolved, it remains trapped in your veins and soft tissues as calcium crystals.
Magnesium not only dissolves areas of calcification, but together with vitamin K2 it directs the calcium to your bones and teeth.

Research shows that our ancestors had a good calcium-magnesium ratio. They didn't eat dairy, and their magnesium wasn't depleted because pesticides didn't exist yet.
We now have 10 times more calcium in our diet than our ancestors. But we are also 10 times more likely to be deficient in magnesium than our ancestors. Calcium supplementation has also diverted attention.

1-Magnesium-poor soil
It's striking that while magnesium is depleted in our soils, calcium is less affected. There's still slightly more calcium in the soil than magnesium. This is another reason to get too much calcium in relation to magnesium.
If you eat food from a magnesium-poor soil, you'll develop symptoms of a deficiency. You can still eat organic to get your magnesium.
But…only if organic farmers use a full spectrum of minerals in their fertilizers.
Actually, Carolyn Dean (a doctor) tested this theory by eating organic food and not using any minerals. She worked with a farm she supported. And all her magnesium deficiency symptoms returned within a short time. That's why she's convinced to take supplements in today's society.
When our soil is low in magnesium, even raw foodists and green juicers suffer from a magnesium deficiency. Magnesium is the central mineral in "plant blood," or chlorophyll, just as iron is the central mineral in hemoglobin.
You might think a diet rich in green vegetables would replenish your magnesium. However, people who eat a lot of green vegetables can still be deficient in magnesium. They then experience symptoms such as heart palpitations and leg cramps, etc.

If the food you eat is not grown in mineral-enriched soil, the food will automatically be mineral deficient, even if it is organic.
2-Processed foods are deficient in magnesium
We take food out of the ground and start refining and processing it, ultimately wasting significant amounts of magnesium. The process of

Nearly all of the magnesium in grains is lost during the milling process, which removes the bran and germ of whole grains. For example, one slice of whole wheat bread provides 24 mg of magnesium, while a slice of white bread contains only 6 mg.

Cortisol and adrenaline are stress hormones. Adrenaline, noradrenaline, and cortisol are elevated during chronic stress. Stress causes excessive urinary elimination of magnesium, further exacerbating magnesium deficiency.
Animal studies using intravenous adrenaline showed that it lowers magnesium, calcium, potassium, and sodium. This proves that when you're in an excited state, you burn adrenaline, but you also burn magnesium.
When you're chronically stressed or anxious, you burn a lot of magnesium. But someone who takes anabolic steroids (synthetic testosterone) is also in a chronic state of stress. The misleading thing about steroids is that men feel good and can take on the world. They gain self-confidence. But their body internally undergoes chronic stress. Health problems due to too much calcium
If you don't have enough magnesium, calcium can't dissolve. You may then experience serious symptoms such as:
-Muscle spasms,

Too much calcium and bladder problems

All muscle cells, including those of the heart, that contain too much calcium develop muscle pain and spasms.
Too much calcium and heart and blood vessel problems
Magnesium also controls calcium channels, which allow only a certain amount of calcium to enter cells. Calcium and heart disease
It's been proven that calcium supplements can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. However, researchers simply blame calcium, failing to realize that it's actually an imbalance of calcium and magnesium that's the cause.
Simply stopping calcium supplementation isn't enough. We need to start supplementing with magnesium and focus on getting our calcium from food.
A 2016 study showed that calcium supplements make people more susceptible to plaque buildup in their arteries, which contributes to the risk of heart attack. The report recommends that people get their calcium from foods such as dairy products, green leafy vegetables, fortified cereals, and juices.
The scientists said they wanted to build on previous research findings. Calcium in supplements never actually reaches a patient's bones, but instead accumulates in soft tissue and muscles, including the heart. Arteriosclerosis is when calcium accumulates in the arteries (soft tissue).
Too much calcium and migraine headaches
Excess calcium stimulates the cells in the muscle layer of the temporal arteries (located at the temples) which can cause migraine headaches.
Too much calcium and airways and asthma
Excess calcium can constrict the smooth muscle surrounding the airways of the lungs, causing breathing difficulty and asthma.
Too much calcium and nerves
Too much calcium can irritate the brain's sensitive nerve cells. Cells irritated by calcium fire repeatedly send out electrical impulses, depleting their energy reserves. This results in tingling, burning, pain, and eventually cell death.
The problems that result from too much calcium deposited in soft tissues
1-In the large intestine, calcium interferes with peristalsis (the waves of muscle contractions that push food through the intestines) causing a magnesium deficiency and also because it is physically 'binding', resulting in constipation.
2. When calcium accumulates in the kidneys and combines with phosphorus or oxalic acid, kidney stones form. (Pg 128 + 143 + 145)
3-Calcium can deposit in the lining of the bladder , preventing it from relaxing. As a result, the bladder isn't completely full, but you still feel the urge to urinate. This leads to frequent urination and infections, especially in older people.
4-Calcium can accumulate in the arteries, causing hardening of the arteries (arteriosclerosis). The new term for this is vascular calcification. Vascular calcification occurs in the coronary arteries and can lead to a heart attack; in the carotid arteries, it can lead to a stroke; and in the renal arteries, it can lead to kidney failure.
5-Calcium can also be deposited in the brain . Many researchers say it can develop neurological diseases such as dementia, Alzheimer's disease, and Parkinson's disease. Alzheimer's is also caused by taking statins. Statins dehydrate your brain.
6-Calcium can deposit in the smooth muscle lining the bronchi and cause symptoms of asthma.
7-Calcium deposits in cell membranes can impair their function. This means that the permeability of the cells becomes more difficult. This makes it increasingly difficult for glucose (a very large molecule) to pass through the cell membrane and then be converted into ATP in the mitochondria of the cells.
8-High glucose levels that result from excess calcium, and can be misdiagnosed as diabetes.
9-Chronic calcium uptake into the mitochondria will inhibit ATP synthesis and ultimately result in cell death.
You can see from the list above that excess calcium is “a mirror image of magnesium deficiency.” An even more damaging consequence of excess calcium occurs in the mitochondria.

Calcium and inflammation
Excess calcium is one of the main causes of body inflammation. Magnesium is one of the most important anti-inflammatory nutrients. Glutathione is also a powerful anti-inflammatory.
Although the FDA and pharmaceutical companies are aware of the importance of magnesium, they prefer to use their chemical drugs to treat inflammation rather than recommend magnesium.
Worse still, anti-inflammatory steroids and many nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are fluoride compounds, meaning they bind magnesium. Treating inflammation with ineffective medications inevitably leads to more inflammation.
